As nominations open for 2015, we take a moment to reflect on who the Creative Edinburgh awards are for and why they exist: to celebrate, promote and highlight the amazing talent of our city.

An interesting fact, the creative industries in the UK currently provide over 1.8 million jobs and are worth on average £76.9 billion per year to the economy based on research published at the start of 2015.

Every day we connect and collaborate more and more with creatives who have a vital impact on the cultural, creative and economic development of Edinburgh, from students through to freelancers, agencies, organisations and more… all working in unique and inspiring ways, nationally and internationally and achieving amazing things. Our way of celebrating and promoting this is to host an annual awards series for creative’s either based in Edinburgh or with a connection to the city: the awards span City, Collaboration, Commercial, Creativity, Independent, Leadership, Social, Startup and Student.

It was with the help of our experience and dedicated Steering Group that we devised these categories. Past winner of the City Award, Ali Bowden, Director of Edinburgh UNESCO City of Literature Trust said: ‘Winning the Creative Edinburgh City Award for our Great Scott! project at Waverley railway station was wonderful. It was a real honour to have the project recognised in that way by the people who make up the creative community in Edinburgh. It means a lot.’

The awards are open to all Edinburgh based creative & tech individuals and businesses and celebrate members and non-members alike from a variety of backgrounds. We think it is vital to celebrate creatives from all stages of the career path; past winner of the Student Award Illustrator, Designer and Events Manager David Mahoney said, 'I was really delighted to win the Student award from Creative Edinburgh, to be recognised for my work not only in University but outside really was very rewarding. The skills and experiences I have had with Creative Edinburgh have really helped forward my career and how I can best engage with members of my local community.'

The awards highlight innovative thinking, great ideas and work that you feel proud of, no matter how big or small. It is as much about an intriguing process as it is about an outcome. Enter yourself or nominate a person, business or organisation who you think deserves to be recognised for their outstanding contribution to the creative industries.

Full details on how to enter or nominate an individual, business or organisation for an award can be found here. The deadline for entries is 12 noon 23rd October and the winners will be announced at our Awards & 4th Birthday bash on 12th November.
