Creative Edinburgh awarded major funding package

New support for ambitious plans for city's year-round creative community

This week Creative Edinburgh, the city’s biggest network of creatives, has been awarded 3 year funding and joins Creative Scotland’s national portfolio of Regularly Funded Organisations (RFOs).

The award of funding represents a major step forward for a dynamic organisation that supports creatives at every level of their career - and will enable ambitious plans to support and boost Edinburgh’s creative sector.

The funding will be invested in programmes of support for Edinburgh’s thriving and growing creative sector - including programmes to help those starting out in creative work, growing a creative business and sustaining a career. Creative Edinburgh’s members are drawn from the full spectrum of creative areas - from digital to craft, dance to design- across all ages and career stages.

As the creative oxygen of Edinburgh, with over 3,800 members across creative disciplines, Creative Edinburgh is now recognised as a factor in Edinburgh’s attractiveness as a location to base a creative enterprise. This January has already seen culture, music and events powerhouse Pete Irvine join the organisation's board of directors, bringing considerable creativity and expertise to Creative Edinburgh's team.

Director Claire Stewart, said:

“I am delighted that Creative Edinburgh’s bid has been funded by Creative Scotland, and proud that our fantastic members have been recognised in this way. We will now be able to provide support that will match the ambition, innovative spirit and generosity of our brilliant creative community.

“The funding is to fulfil an ambitious 3 year business plan to elevate Edinburgh’s creative ambition and make sure that talent and ideas are supported and nurtured, and creative work is accessible and inclusive.”

Board Chair Mark Gorman said:

“We’d like to thank our sponsors, funders and supporters to date for helping us to grow and reach the point we are now at, where this funding will enable us to move to another level. Creative Edinburgh has had several years of growth, in membership, activity and ambition to reach this point, and thanks are due not only to our existing team but also to our former directors and team including our board and steering group.”

Cllr Gavin Barrie, Convener of Housing and Economy at City of Edinburgh Council said:

“The City of Edinburgh Council has supported Creative Edinburgh since it’s re-launch in 2011 and I am delighted that they have now received regular funding from Creative Scotland. The creative industries make a significant contribution to Edinburgh’s economy, and that of Scotland as a whole. Creative Edinburgh is Scotland’s biggest and fastest growing creative network representing close to 4000 creative practitioners reflecting the dynamic and entrepreneurial nature of the capital.”
